Be careful not to judge; someone’s situation or circumstance can easily become yours.

CHAPTER 6

JUDGE NOT

Iwas so glad that Candace took me to the reservoir. It’s just what I needed to have the strength for this day, Monday. I was to see a campus counselor in a few minutes. As I scanned the room, I wondered what story the other two individuals waiting had to tell. One person was a slim guy with long blonde hair wearing tattered blue jeans. He seemed quite uneasy. The other individual was an older lady that appeared to be around fifty years old. Sometimes we forget that older students attend college, too. Sitting out in the waiting area was making me nervous enough knowing that after I left my counseling session, I would have to go to the campus police to report Stephen.

Ironically, Marcus called me this morning to check on me. It’s almost as though he had telepathy. He kept saying, “Lil Sis, you ok?” Of course I lied because Marcus has a short fuse when it comes to someone doing anything to me. Once Andrew Wilson accidently tripped me on the playground after school and Marcus came unglued and shoved Andrew face down on the sidewalk before he got the real story. Fortunately, Andrew Wilson only received a few scratches to his face. Marcus later apologized to Andrew, but gave him a warning to be careful around his little sister.

Although I’d been going through issues with Stephen, this morning I realized that women were not the only victims of abuse. Marcus told me that Andrew was being tortured by an ex-girlfriend that we called Cat-Eye. She was beautiful girl, with a figure out of this world, and stunning hazel brown eyes that everyone wished they had. Cat-eye’s real name was Karen Fuller. She was so very demanding, growing up with a father that gave her anything that she desired. She continued to expect whatever she wanted when she started living on her own.

Months after their breakup, Marcus said that Karen walked into a local restaurant and saw Andrew with another young lady. On the spot, Karen caused such a ruckus that she was asked to leave the restaurant, but not before she hurled a glass of red wine into Andrew’s face, wetting him up and staining his shirt, tie, blazer, and pants; but even more so, embarrassing him to the fullest. Andrew did not respond with violence, because he was raised to respect young ladies.

If Cat-Eye’s red wine tirade wasn’t enough, upon leaving the restaurant and going to his car, Andrew realized that one of his tires had been slashed and the entire driver’s side of his car from the side view mirror to the gas tank had been keyed. To add to the story, the next evening Karen parked outside of Andrew’s apartment, waiting for him to leave for work. She then jumped out of the darkness and began striking him in his face before hopping back into her red convertible and spinning off.
